Michael Basco Biography
Michael Basco grew up in East Los Angeles. Before attending college, he served in the Marine Corp. Afterwards, he began studying electrical engineering at the University of Southern California. After two years, he decided to pursue medicine and switched his major to Biology.
After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in 1982, Michael continued his schooling at the University of California, San Diego. Here he received his Doctor of Medicine. During these four years, Michael was also a member of the Latin Medical Association. Upon graduation, Michael completed his residency at Parkland Hospital.
Michael Basco’s career as a medical professional spans over 25 years. For most of his career, he was a clinical OB GYN and emergency room doctor. He also worked in disease management as the National Medical Director for Cigna. Another defining moment in his career is his time wth Molina Healthcare of Texas, where, as the Chief Medical Officer, Michael worked with Medicare, Medicaid and Medicare Advantage patients.
Within the last five years, Michael has shifted his focus to drawing attention to evidence based medicine. He does so by interacting with players to tell the stories of different drugs and the value they bring. Simultaneously, he is working to lowering the cost of healthcare and improving the quality of life for patients.
